Interracial Baseball Games: 1946

The 1946 offseason saw one of the most extensive and iconic series of interracial barnstorming games. Hall-of-Fame pitchers Bob Feller and Satchel Paige organized All-Star teams and barnstormed across the country against each other. Each team featured four Hall-of-Famers who participated in at least part of the tour. The Paige All-Stars (ASP) and Feller All-Stars (ASF) played at least 17 games against each other, of which Retrosheet has found box scores for 11. When the tour reached the West Coast, the Paige All-Stars dispersed and Paige hooked up with a California-based barnstorming team, the Kansas City Royals (KCR), who played the Feller All-Stars (at least) three times.

There was one other interesting barnstorming team of note in the 1946 offseason. Jackie Robinson, fresh off his season with the Montreal Royals, put together a barnstorming team that included several former teammates, from both the Kansas City Monarchs as well as the Montreal Royals. The latter included Royals' starting shortstop and future Los Angeles Dodgers executive Al Campanis. The integrated Jackie Robinson All-Stars played several teams, including Feller's All-Stars. These games are not included here, primarily because Robinson's team included several players who never rose beyond the minor leagues.

The 14 games involving the Bob Feller All-Stars for which we have box scores are summarized below with links to box scores. The box score files and team rosters for these games can be downloaded from the link at the bottom of this page.
