Interracial Baseball Games: 1936

The Cincinnati Reds spent spring training of 1936 in Cuba and played several games there against teams which included several Negro League players. These games are not included here because it was spring training for the Reds, so their player usage was perhaps more relaxed than usual.

Following the 1936 season, a team of (white) major-league All-Stars (MLS) barnstormed against a team of Negro League All-Stars (NNS) through the midwest and west. Each team included three Hall-of-Famers for at least part of the tour. The Hall-of-Famers included two players born in 1896 (Rogers Hornsby and Oscar Charleston) and one born in 1918 (Bob Feller turned 18 a month after this barnstorming tour ended). The other three Hall-of-Famers were 33-year-old Cool Papa Bell, 30-year-old Satchel Paige, and 23-year-old Johnny Mize.

These five games are summarized below with links to box scores. The box score files and team rosters for these games can be downloaded from the link at the bottom of this page.
