
Welcome to Retrosheet
Retrosheet was founded in 1989 for the purpose of computerizing play-by-play accounts of as many pre-1984 major league games as possible. Retrosheet's work has expanded considerably from its original inception while retaining the same core focus: major-league games. Read more about our organization and our history here.
Retrosheet's goal today is to provide as much information as possible about every baseball game played in major-league history. The results of our work can be explored through the menu items above. An overview of the game data we have available is summarized below. To return to Retrosheet's home page (i.e., this page), simply click the Retrosheet bat from any page.
Retrosheet is an all-volunteer organization. We are always looking for more volunteers. What's New
- 8/15/2025: Retrosheet's list of non-pitchers on the mound has been updated back to 1899. Issues identified with our semi-annual release should have also been corrected.
- 8/4/2025: Retrosheet's first semi-annual release of 2025. See here for details.
Retrosheet's Game Collection
As of our most recent release, Retrosheet has compiled the following game data.
- Complete play-by-play data for all AL and NL seasons from 1911 - 2024 as well as the 1914 and 1915 Federal League. Some of these accounts are deduced from newspaper stories and box scores. Some games are deduced for the following seasons: 1911, 1913 - 1959, 1962 - 1968.
- Box-score data have been compiled for the 1871, 1872, and 1874 NA seasons, the 1899 - 2024 NL seasons, and for the entire history of the AL (1901 - 2024) and FL (1914 - 1915).
- Negro League data have been compiled for the 1936 - 1949 seasons. In addition, Negro League data have been compiled for several hundred notable games played prior to 1937.

- Download a set of .csv files providing daily logs for teams and players as well as fully parsed play-by-play data here (632Mb zip file).
